Sorry, but the breakup of the Soviet Union also had its downside.

>>> I don't see how the breakup of the Soviet Empire could have caused a World surge towards nuclear weapons... it seems illogical.

>>> At the heights of the Cold War, the Soviets were trying to slip missiles into Cuba (and we into Turkey). France went nuclear so they could be counted among the 'great powers'.

>>> But with multiple treaties reducing the warhead count of both super powers... and a world-wide push to reverse proliferation... Brazil turned back from it's nuclear program, and so did South Africa (Israel built enough until it felt sufficiently armed against the entire Arab world).

>>> Something has changed in the World.

>>> When India and Pakistan went nuclear... they did it without the approval of either the US or Russia... and now it seems Iran will quickly become 'super-power armed'.

>>> I wouldn't blame the end of the Cold War for this.

It was W's daddy that screwed up...he had THE chance to get most of the scientists on board forever for almost nothing, thereby eliminating the threat we are facing now with rogue nations and too much science
