You're getting pretty far from the example, IMO. What you are saying is that if the neighborhood doesn't want me to smash the radio, I am permanetly and absolutely prohibited from doing that by their opinions alone.

That makes neighborhood opinion the dicatator of my principles. And suppose their POV is that I should have to go to church every Sunday because it will make me less inclined to seek violent responses to problems? Or that I should be prohibited from watching Fox network in my home because it makes me more violently opposed to their views? Or that I must not read the Iliad because it glorifies war, but may only read The Red Badge of Courage and other similar anti-violence books? All of those would be reasonable POVs for the neighbors to hold if my preference is still for smashing over talking.

If we take your position, an informal community POV becomes a controlling mandate, a government as it were without the protections or benefits of government.
