After all their assets and currency have out performed the US for the last decade, right? It must be so, they have a surplus and a surplus is good. Deficit bad, surplus good.

During all these years of rising trade deficits the dollar rose and rose. Now the dollar drops and it is because of the rising trade deficit? Trade deficits always have offsetting foreign investment flows, they can't exist without them. The trade deficit falls so do foreign flows, the inflow falls so does the trade deficit. One begets the other.
