Hi Russ,
Nice post on Russia. You are quite diplomatic. You may have missed your true calling. I found the last post on the condition of their country very interesting. Please continue to add to that as the weeks or months go on. That is the kind of thing that builds hope during difficult times.
Tom

your niavete re: risk assessment is mind blowing...

add to that...this utterance from your keyboard enabled mind...
>>Putin IMO is the most effective leader in the world. He has a tough job for sure, but will often personally take the time to take on the oligarchs and thieves.

Quite literally this Former head of the KGB now Pres of Russia has every access to any piece of dirt on more oligarchs and thieves than anyone else in the entire former U.S.S.R. I would certainly agree it helps him to be a type of effective leader...intimidation and blackmail have a tendency to help one's leadership, yes????

GEEEEEZE!!!! BUT THE following direct quote UTTERANCE OF YOURS TAKES THE CAKE....
I no longer have any problem with political risk in Russia or eastern Europe.
I guess everyong has the right to an opinion...but your Gomer Pyle-ish foolish utterance takes the cake.

You love Pan American Silver, right? Even Bill Fleck wouldn't make that stupid statement after what PAAS has been through with DUKAT....Have you totally LOST IT???

So, fess up....how much of your Personal Portfolio--hell, pick one...let's say in G&S&P mining industry only sector.... has "EUROPEAN AND RUSSIAN POLITICAL "non-RISK" exposure... in nice round percentages?
0.5? 1%? smaller than a lima bean or bigger than a breadbox.

Bet it's so damn low, you won't respond!

We are clearly reading different information on Russia. I'm reading that the country is 100% driven by corruption and the GNP is 40% lower than 10 years ago and the poor are getting poorer by the minute. There's very little in the way of governance and the idea of democracy is an illusion as Putin has completed the move to an autocracy with not goodwill. The population is shrinking as well as the public want out more than ever. China is starting to look like valhalla to some. This will prevent another revolution but the liberal train is in reverse and accelerating.
