ultimately, defaults will affect the ease with which one may apply for a mortgage -- THEN, that feeds back to price -- got a long way to go before that happens, IMO.

I can't speak for Fort Wayne, but I do have family in Evansville, and the city is doing quite well. A large Toyota plant located there a few years ago, and it is now undergoing expansion. Also, some other businesses have grown there recently. I have participated in a private placement of shares in a community bank there to ride the wave...

Housing prices compared with Indianapolis (where I live) are very cheap, at least 20-30% less for a comparable house. But, Indy is similarly cheap compared with Chicago, probably not quite as cheap as St. Louis.
