Robert McNamara gave us the Vietnam war. Civilian oversight of the military is essential to our political system. Generals are NOT policy makers and cannot and should not make policy decisions -- and the most important policy decision is the declaration of war. The same is true in reverse -- bureaucrats should not be making battlefield decisions -- that is what the Generals are there for. If they can't do their job, then the Secretary of Defense can fire and replace them. But the moment the Secretary of Defense forgets his role and thinks that He is the battlefield General, our soldiers pay for his hubris with their lives.

N E W Y O R K, May 1 — In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

like i've been trying to tell you, bill. you can't trust the government. one day you will learn. israel has committed acts of terrorism in an effort to make it look like the arabs were attacking the united states. this is a documented fact. read up on the lavon affair. i bet they didn't teach you anything about the lavon affair in school now did they old man? i'm sure israel had plans of blaming the egyptians for its rocket, torpedo, and napalm attack on the u.s.s. liberty, which killed 34 american sailors and injured 172 more. lucky for us they didn't quite sink old liberty and cover up their crime. i bet they didn't teach you about the liberty in school either, now did they old man! perhaps you were out of school by 1967. or maybe you were too busy smoking dope.

i guess your school teacher was too busy talking about the holocaust to cover this in school.
