People mistakenly compare the current situation to Desert Storm. Desert storm was "multilateralism with limited objectives" at its very best. The new war would more aptly be described as "adventures in nation-building". It is an exercise in "unilateralism with no end in sight" at its worst. The idea that a predominantly "Christian" country with a strong pro-Israeli political posture and an insatiable appetite for oil will find nation-building in the Arab world to be a piece of cake borders on the lunatic fringe - but that is the bill of goods we are being sold. Once we seize the oil (assuming the wells are not on fire at the time), we can control the price of oil. But the prospects for "nation-building" in the Arab world point towards a costly mess with US Government finances in an ever-worsening state of imbalance. It is no wonder industrial investors are sitting on their wallets.
