Larry,

When one shorts these instruments you have to pay dividends to the person who loaned you the shares. Also, a lot of brokerage houses charge you interest on the margin. This is a high cost. One would have to get out the old spread sheet and see if you could make a buck. If some of these instruments have options that could be less expensive, but your timing has to be right.
