Everyone was criticizing the war in 1972. Nixon won by promising to end it ASAP but he didn't. It went another 3-4 years. By 1972 when Kerry and millions of others protested it was one of the most unpopular, wasteful wars in modern history. Draftees were getting thrown into the meat-grinder and our leaders would neither end it nor go all out to win it. If it was even possible to win. A terrible national tragedy. This is what happens when Presidents rush into war for ideological reasons without an end game plan. Kerry's protests were strictly about saving US lives, his fellow brothers-in-arms, and he felt betrayed by our leaders who could not admit they'd made a collosal blunder. That blunder cost 55,000 American lives and countless others, not to mention running up a collosal national debt as Bush is doing now.
