I meant if you called the FBI and told them you had this cyber buddy with the handle, Jewel, who has a buddy who got this phone call and suggesting they look into it. Obviously if either Jewel or Jewel's friend wanted the FBI involved, they would have made the contact themselves. If you acted because you thought that the friend and his community would be better served if the FBI knew about this and because hate incidents include some collateral risk to you, I don't think either one of them would appreciate your "helping" in that way. Even if the threat to you were more than marginal, you would be acting against the friend's explicit wishes and Jewel's implied wishes. It may not be foolish. You may, in fact, have a better perspective on the friend's best interests than he does, but it sure would be arrogant.
