Impossible?

For our military?

You surely jest.

Excuse me, ShilohCat, but that response does not take into account what an army is good for, what it can and cannot do. The US forces in the Gulf are not at home. They are at the end of a long supply chain, at the sufference of the host nations, who are hosting the troops for an invasion, not a long-term occupation. Leaving such an army to just sit will wear out our welcome, destroy the morale of the army, and turn it into a big fat target for the terrorists as it becomes clear to everybody that there's no need to be scared, the Americans may look big & bad but they don't have the stomach for an actual fight, not even if the odd are 100 to 1 for them.
