Saxon High Income Fund is about 80% trusts and has an MER of about 1.3%. Saxon is a small shop with 4 funds. It has a very good reputation. I have a small position.

You want something that is on play on the Canadian oil and gas trusts, and also has some security built into it, have a look at CRT.UN (Citadel Smart Fund). Their investments are 100% oil and gas trusts and they pay a distribution of about 10%. The angle which is a little different is that they have also purchased a forward contact which will guarantee 70% of the issue price on wind-up of the fund (which I believe is in about 10 years). So even if the value of the oil and gas trusts went to zero (not going to happen) you would get back 70% of $25.00, being $17.50.

I hold a fair amount in my RRSP retirement fund. 10% and very secure. Let's you sleep real peaceful at night. URL for their website is: citadelfunds.com

Yes if you want to focus on energy trusts why not buy a basket and avoid the fees of a fund. If you want a few names to look at I can suggest the following moderately priced, conservative and longstanding trusts which have been good to me for about 7 years. AET ERF NAL PGF VKR.

Hi James, it's actually s'il vous plait:-)

I have three suggestions to help you as a newbie trust investor. 1. subscribe to the e-letter investing for income. It's available at www.investingforincome.com I think. 2. purchase the e-book Wealth by Stealth at www.wealthbystealth.net I think. The first talks frequently about O&G trusts, which they strongly favour, as well as issues pertinent to both US and Canadian buyers of Canadian Royalty Trusts. The latter presents a superb investment strategy for investing with trusts. 3. also visit stockhouse chat board on trusts $trsts. It is very active and has posters who provide great analysis of all the major trusts and trust investing strategies.

good luck
