Which country in the middle east would build the housing, the barracks, and the training center for military personnel who intend to stay indefinitely? America can't afford (and I mean spiritually), to keep a 150 thousand manned army on the doorsteps of Iraq forever.

The new overseas policy that our head of NATO laid out for a visiting group from Congress makes senses. Stop basing troops overseas. Set up a "Lilypad" in or near Iraq for about 20,000 troops, leave the equipment there for more, and rotate them in and out on a 6 month basis by air. This means no dependents. Keep most troops here. A lot cheaper. You close overseas bases, not mainland ones. You are only 24 hours away by plane.

Of course you are 100% correct Michael! The folks in Hollywood, and other similarly inclined people, just take our freedom for granted, with NO thought of how much sacrifice it takes for our military, and their families, to say nothing of our leaders, so that the rest of us can live as normally as possible, in an impossible complex world.

Most Americans haven't a clue of the toll it takes on military families, who worry and pray night after night for their loved ones to return.

That attitude represents a disengaged and callous thought process toward the men and women who serve in our military. Nice quality of life, living in the desert and receiving telegrams from home, basically forever.

Ever hear of rotation?

And what of the soldiers stationed fulltime at our hundreds of other overseas bases ?

Come on, Michael...
