I guess they are relevant in complementing the book reviews on "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee". ================================================= tfn.net think-aboutit.com themenscenter.com ================================================= By the way, it has been observed that some folks of native descent who suffered an identity crisis or disorientation of their psyches, when they ventured into white mainstream society, had their psyches restored to normalcy by undergoing a sort of "re-programming" into their ancient cosmogony and culture. Then, after this re-adjustment of their inner compass, they were able to navigate their way normally, in a manner of speaking, into modern society. I am inclined to believe that the humiliations and indignities suffered by native Indians at the hands of the white European settlers of the past few centuries have wreaked considerable havoc on the native Indian psyche as a whole. As a consequence, not a few of their descendants today still harbor an inner or subconscious wrath and hatred against the white man. But many of the angry and hateful folks have converted into Christianity, the religion of the white man which teaches love and charity towards others. Those descendants that no longer harbor anger and hatred have assimilated themselves very well into their new religion and society. But those whose hate and anger which still lie dormant most of the time and imperceptible to others, while looking normal, are in fact anthropomorphic wild beast-cum-human specimens!!! Some of these critters have been identified by their truly human companions and they were given nicknames appropriate to their speech and behavior, for example, Frog-in-the-Mud, Wily Coyote, Calling Bull, Crazy Wolf, Snarling Wolf etc, & etc & etc. It is vital that such specimens undergo metamorphosis (not just self-renewal) to integrate themselves into mainstream society. Otherwise, they will ever find themselves strangers at the gates of modern society, so to speak, and will always be miserable and ready to take offence and be discombobulated by merest trifles, or they may even live in a world of fantasy and false grandeur and superiority in order to compensate for their inner sense of inferiority.
