I don't think shock and awe is a viable policy at all. And i doubt if US plans to use it. I believe the write up was a piece of psychological warfare to scare and demoralise Saddam, but someone forgot to tell Bush that threats like these serve to worsen the situation by forcing an opponent into a corner where he's in a position to win sympathy by being in a victim's role. I must thank my professor of Negotiations class in school for this insight, because I anticipated the peace marches long ago. Occasionally the opponent could very well give up, but knowing Saddam and the region, its going to have quite the opposite effect. The constant ring of 'humiliation' in OBL's rhetoric will be further justified....and food for more suicide bombers...

I think Bush needs a 'new' warring psychologist on his team - one that can help him defuse the situation and not inflame his friends and foes any more than he has. One that teaches him how to be quietly effective rather than be a brain-dead maniac he's proving to be. <JMHO of course>

There are so many ways to negotiate a win-win, even now, even to win a clear decisive victory if the real object is to disarm him and remove the threat. I am just apalled at the bloodlust, and it convinces me that the motive isn't disarming him...its to march into Baghdad. And since i watch with a detached amusement, maching into Baghdad would be ok with me...but I'd prefer honesty. And being honest might save time and a few lives since the path to attainment of those 'other' objectives may be very different.

But such is lady politics....

Say what you don't mean...

Mean what you don't say...

Don't say what you mean....

Don't mean what you say....
