I wonder what it will take for Bush and company to notice that they have a serious problem and threat pretty close to home. Since Mish asked me to investigate that piece where they said that a whole bunch of Arabs and other foreigners have arrived in Venezuela I have been doing some digging and it seems to be all too true. We knew for quite some time that there were a lot of Cubans here. It is believed that Chavez's bodyguard is made up mostly of Cubans. At first we thought that these foreigners were just the strike breakers brought in to reactivate PDVSA but it seems that there is also a contingent of al Qaeda terrorists in the group.

Today they arrested one of the strike leaders, Carlos Fernandez, the president of FedeCamaras, our main business guild and they have a warrant for the arrest of Carlos Ortega, the president of CTV, our largest labor union. Carlos Ortega is hiding and he has said on the radio that he will continue the fight from his hideout.

Last Sunday three dissident soldiers were executed. The Chavez gangs raided the hospital where a 14 year old girl, who they had left for dead, was recuperating from a shot to the head. The situation here is getting ugly and very tense. People still have hopes for a peaceful solution but each day I'm more convinced that before that this will become a bloody civil war before it is over. Before today there was a lot of fear mixed with anger. Now the anger is still there but the fear is disappearing.

We do have a major problem and that is that the old political parties are still hoping to get some scraps from Chavez. Among the "new" leaders, there is not one who has been able to consolidate the protest into action beyond marches and petitions. Chavez just laughs at them. But one of these days real violence will break out on the streets unless the military stop Chavez, not a likely outcome at this time. Our military has proven to be a bunch of greedy, corrupt cowards.

I fear that payback time might become a painful and bloody massacre.
