THE DUCT TAPE WARS It is precisely this situation, referred to in your post, that America's hawks ignore--even the ones on this board. None of them will discuss the Battle for Baghdad at length. Have too many been blinded by all the surrender talk? Do too many sit in the a comforted hope that Saddam will take an exile deal? It's no stretch to say defending Kuwait wasn't worth it. But to defend a homeland? Sorry, folks. Saddam's unlikely to defending his Iraqi homeland with duct tape. Historians have unique ways of describing past actions, especially wars. If the Battle of Baghdad becomes a fiercely fought one and one where results are both tragic and bloody, even in death or defeat Saddam's ego will live on. And it'll be OBL who'll be recruiting in his name. Should OBL become successful in what will inevitably become a post-war recruitment drive to turn into terrorists young, angry, unemployed and impoverished Arabs, who've nothing to lose anyway, indeed a new wave of terror could strike America, and other nations--particularly ones mistakenly supportive of Bush's call for war--and what historians will label The Duct Tape Terrorist Wars will take a new form.

Well, we'll have to wait and see - don't we? My guess is US is going to offer $$s to Iraqi deserters to fight the street wars for them.....just like they did in Afghanistan... I'm not sure how that may be taken. I can see Afghans, a warring breed, taking up that offer. But i cannot guess what an Iraqi reaction to such an offer may be. I guess they might be divided on it...or most may take it up for money.... I know Pakistan offered a lot of families in Kashmir Rs 3m for each 'son' they sacrificed to the 'cause.' There were a lot of parents who sacrificed one of the sons to ensure their economic well being. Always a heart wrencing decision..
