too bad Microsoft software doesnt work well
nor is it integrated well with other vendor software
innovation?

Softie got a lock on micro-computer software with the transition from 8 to 16 bit hardware. Over the years, they strengthened their position in the micro-computer software field while Moore's Law led to the dominance of micro-computers. But just like trends in stocks, tech trends change. While I don't like Scott Nealy's personality, and I believe Sun is toast, he's right - the net is the computer. This coming transition to broadband net centric computing with an Open Source Linux base poses a huge threat to Microsoft's continued dominance.
