I thought one couldn't short stocks under $4.00 in the US,
however one time I accidently put in the wrong signal for a short and I got it with TradeStation.

I guess there is no regulation on that, but most companies have a policy against it. Also, share may be hard to come by.

In Canada, and elsewhere, naked shorting is allowed for now
so one can short anything. Brokerage fees are like the old-time full service brokers. If you call a broker in Canada more than likely they will say Americans can't set up accounts there. However, there are brokerage that will allow. Must send notarized identification for US government regulations for avoid those who attempt to avoid taxes.
