China may have no desire to become a world power--neither did the United States but in this time China needs to step up because its long term prosperity is just as threatened as ours by world terror and terror states. Another couple of years of recession in the US and china will feel the pinch. That "better life" you talk about will be only a dream then. mike

Oh please...

And it won't be 50 years from now, in 10 years China will very likely be the major customer for Mideast oil.

I don't know what that will do to the geopolitical landscape in the region, but there will be some changes.
