Searle,
"But the problem is why?"
That is the $64,000 question. To those rational people, there is no explanation. The correct answer is to ignore those people, and hope they go back in their hole. Cannot imagine the "thought" that created this!!

I can answer why. It is because US society has become so immoral over time that it instinctively knows something is wrong and is trying to heal itself of the problem but because it's lost track of what a moral venue is, they are trying to construct one out of thin air haphazardly.

So you have porn everywhere up the gazoo and the supreme court allowing it, but the police are summoned over a snowwoman. Hate crime laws, drug enforcement laws where there is confiscation of property of uncharged persons, political correctness to the nth degree, and laws and lawsuits hither and yon--all knee jerk reactions.

Remember when the kids were left alone in one of those CNN stories and the mom was arrested for leaving children unattended? Then CNN ran some segments on children left home alone and it was the contention of one anchor that a 12 year old couldn't be left home alone. In my upbringing, a 12 year old had a fair amount of responsibility, including driving of heavy farm equipment.
