Gordon, re:the "rights" mentioned were described as coming from a Creator I would put the emphasis on the words "their Creator". Sort of makes it nonspecific regarding which "God", if any at all. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Jefferson was a believer of natural self evident human rights. Man comes with these rights. For government's purposes it doesn't matter where they come from, they're self evident. As Deism dictated: men were to rule by reason not revelation. Steve
