does anyone know of a website where you can find the historical sale price of real estate?

I think you will find that accurate indexes of real estate price cost money. Accurate measures periodically reappraise the same properties with some careful adjustments. This is time consuming and is unlikely to be given away. However, the Real Estate Research Council which has maintained a home price index since 1890 occasionally shares some of their data for free.

Dataquick takes less care with their indexes and perhaps not surprisingly share more information for free.

The Realtors association compiles "average sales price" data which is close to meaningless, and to be expected publish this garbage for free everywhere. They even pay publicists to disseminate it.
