" could have just kept his mouth shut about "regime change" and "axis of evil" we would not be where we are."

There were far more than those two phrases.....the arrogance of his administration, possible excluding Powell, and the bullying "my way or the highway" attitude has angered the world and now worries the world.... The man has no diplomatic skills.....

Really this mess is more PR than anything, get a new speechwriter. If he could have just kept his mouth shut about "regime change" and "axis of evil" we would not be where we are.

You know, I hate to admit this, but you are quite right here. Had Bush not been so ambitious, we would not be here. But the "regime change" and "axis of evil" comments are not the problem. The problem is, you don't use such terms without having the willingness and ability to act decisively. Had Bush used the tough language on Sept. 12 and then followed up with tough action, PR and militarily (which, of course takes more time than PR), we would not be here.

Bush failed to link Saddam and the entire "axis of evil" to September 11. He could easily have done this by stating it clearly and repeatedly that the referenced nations were the cause of so many thousands of American deaths and deaths of others worldwide and by taking a bearing of war from the beginning. It took too long for Bush to figure it out. And he lost all of the sympathy that had come to us automatically. He could have exploited that sympathy by moving more quickly.
