A very nice response from the Latvian Ambassador's office: Dear (Hawkmoon), Thank you very much for your letter. I apologize that I could not respond earlier due to the visit of our President Mrs. Vaira Vike-Freiberga. Our Embassy staff and I personally were pleasantly surprised to receive so many letters and phone calls recently. Frankly speaking, we did not expect such a great support from Americans. It gives us confidence that Latvian - American partnership is on the right track and that the work we are doing here and back home in Latvia is appreciated. Well, it was only 12 years ago when Latvia and other two Baltic States - Estonia and Lithuania were looking to west for American support for our freedom from Soviet tyranny. Today, we feel it is our duty to join the Unites States of America to help other oppressed nations such as Iraqi people, who have suffered so long under Sadam Husein's regime. Thank you again for showing interest in Latvia. I have forwarded your email to President's Vaira Vike-Freiberga office, and let me assure you that your support for Latvia is very much appreciated.
