Brian, I have seen this allegation, i.e., that the U.S. knew Saddam was gassing his own people, bandied about so often it is clear that many people accept it as absolute truth. What I cannot find, and would greatly appreciate you providing, (or at least links or references to), is any credible evidence in support of this allegation.

As an example of what I mean by not seeing any evidence in support of of this allegation, I just spent a couple hours going through the website of Human Rights Watch and was unable to find a single such reference. Human Rights Watch takes the U.S. to task for many things large and small, right down to their assertion that prisoners in our federal penitentiaries do not have enough access to telephones, but they somehow miss this entire issue.

Which is not to say that they are silent on Iraq and gas -- far from it. They lay out the Anfal genocide campaigns against the Kurds, hrw.org as well as the genocidal actions against post-Gulf War uprisings, hrw.org in stomach-wrenching detail, yet, once again, make no mention of any alleged U.S. role in or foreknowledge of, any of these crimes.

A search of Amnesty International's website turned up no evidence either. amnesty.org

I looked at the Center for Defense Information's Chemical and Biological Weapons section, and also found no such references. cdi.org

The Federation of American Scientists' Chemical & Biological Arms Control Program website contains no such references which I could find. fas.org

In short, I'm stumped, and I look forward to seeing your evidence.

Regards,

augieboo
