EP, let me share my objectives with you, then I'll share my strategy. My objective is to outproduce the S&P 500 in the years it shows a profit. In the years it shows a loss, I want to show a profit. These goals are modest in my opinion, yet they will have me outproducing 80% of the market.

When I read about studies done by a major brokerage house that shows only 8% of their retail investors showed a profit over a 10 year period, the mid 80's to mid 90's, then you have my attention. The greatest market boom in our generation and only 8% of retail accounts were profitable.

I refer to the 92% that failed as dream chasers. Chasing the dream caused them to make too many mistakes, mistakes that cost them too much capital.

I don't normally run more than 3 positions at a time. I don't normally invest more than 10% in any one holding. I have to assume I'm going to make a mistake and I don't want a mistake to wipe out too much of my capital.

As the market conditions improve, I'm assuming they will one day, I'll adjust the number of positions at risk.
