I would rather call it a necessity of reducing the role of the public sector and of trade unions. The ratio of public expenditures to GDP is close to 50%, way too high (30% in the USA). sgipt.org

The 35-h-weeks are a myth which can only be preserved by some public employers. Otherwise there's a lot of overtime work, currently about 1.6 billion hours/year. de.news.yahoo.com
