There are many countries that are not ready for democracy in the sense that Madison meant. The USA in 1790 was barely ready. Madison prescribed the conditions and hoped we were ready. Democracy, he said, requires many interested groups so that the minority would not be in danger of compromise from the power combinations of the majority. In short it requires a middle class that, in his words "has a multiplicity of interests and a multiplicity of sects." This is fundamental to what the USA is and if anyone fails to understand that it will lead to a complete misunderstanding of the nation. This fact is its power.

Most of the countries that the IMF and the World Bank impose the liberal agenda on are not even close to what existed here in 1790. Failure is the result.

Tyranny in most jurisdictions is well established and will not be removed without brute force, which is why we have to club Saddam now.

9/11, in my view, was the last step in globalization. Now even us dumb Yankees get it. It's not just a commercial thing but also a cultural force that will move all people in the same direction. We have been in a privileged geographical position: two oceans between the warring peoples and us. These oceans prevented an attack on us. Also, two countries, a big one to the north and a passive one to the south, both sort of friendly but with the same beliefs.

This provided isolation and perfect protection from invasion. All of a sudden we have a war act from within our boundary. Globalization is finally here. This is another reason to strike Saddam. Geography can no longer be a barrier for us and he has to pay for that breakdown.
