mongo, that statement is such a canard. American history is replete with administration changes and change of plans. It was over two years into his watch when he dramatically raised the stakes.

Kennedy had many advisors. His problem was more the ones that he chose to listen to. Eisenhower never promised combat troops to RVN. He in fact warned against it. Kennedy stepped off that pier all by himself.
