The U.S. has never used its military resources to gain access to oil.

Hmmm... That's news to me. What was the Gulf War in 1991 all about? Access to cocoa supplies? Don't tell me it was about some moral obligation to oust Saddam from Kuwait. Because, the U.S. has shown little or no moral or military concern when other countries have been invaded (Tibet, East Timor, Bosnia (it tooks the International Community years to respond to the crises in the Balkans). Not to mention our own acts of agression over the decades (Panama, Philapines, etc.). If we were really concerned about Kuwait, perhaps we would have tried to prevent the war in the first place. The Gulf War in 1991 was about securing the oil supplies from the Persian Gulf. And used as a pretext to permenantly station our troops in the oil rich Middle East.
