Gramps - you are quite right.
This forum is not really adequate to deal with
the subject of Eschatology ( study of last things )

However today as I was thinking about you post
I remembered how Jesus taught so much in parables and
how sometimes a little 'story' can do more to jog people
into thinking than any MAJOR discussion or debate.

I hope you enjoy it....

One day a preacher began to read
from the scriptures to his congregation.

".... Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here,
which shall not taste of death, till they see the
Son of man coming in his kingdom."

At this point a new fellow - who did not understand
the 'rules' - spoke out and interrupted the preacher..

" But preacher!" he exclaimed " no one is standing here
except for you, everyone else is seated.
Does that mean you will be the only one to 'see the son of man coming'?"

The preacher smiled and said " No, no my dear fellow.
These were the words of the saviour to the people that
he was speaking to when he was alive.
The ones who were alive and heard Him back then!
Not to US here today"

The preacher then continued teaching and later went on
reading from Thessalonians.
".....then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together
with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

Then suddenly the very emotional
and excited preacher began to proclaim.

"Jesus is saying this to YOU today my brothers"
"Jesus is returning SOON"

At this point the newcomer spoke out once again...

"Does it matter that we are still not standing?"

Grampa, those who study eschateology pick a hard subject so many just choose to believe what they are taught by other well meaning people who in themselves have accepted a false belief based on what others tell them.

There are many Scriptuires that prove the Parousia occured in 70 AD.

"You will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes." Matt. 10:23 It really is clear if you decide to look.

God bless you. You are a great guy.

James

Hi ya Gramps !

When trying to understand the essence of the scripture , wouldn't it always be a good place to start by listening to the words of the Master , and not his interpreters? It is obviously clear here , that if it weren't for "religion"
and the constant jousting matches of such "noble knights" , cries of hereticism , and militancy of belief , God's Kingdom could be very well at hand , and not some distant
final -day-of-judgment ?

Here's what a search of the Bible returns , for the phrase(an easy one for beginners )
of------>"follow Me"...

*** "follow me" was found 19 times in 18 verses in the New Testament.***

Matthew 4:19 - And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matthew 8:22 - But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Matthew 9:9 - And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Matthew 16:24 - Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Matthew 19:21 - Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Mark 2:14 - And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

Mark 8:34 - And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mark 10:21 - Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Luke 5:27 - And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

Luke 9:23 - And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Luke 9:59 - 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Luke 18:22 - Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

John 1:43 - The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

John 10:27 - My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

John 12:26 - If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

John 13:36 - Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.

John 21:19 - This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Acts 12:8 - And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

That was a nice search , no ? And so easy , hehe...
