If we wanted to steal Iraq's oil, we'd already own it.

Well we might soon. Haven't you been following the news? We're preparing to attack Iraq and take the country and it's oil over.

we do not possess an expansionist or acquisitive doctrine, nor do we wish to inflict harm on humanity.

Didn't you learn about "Manifest Destiny" in history class? That's our expansionist doctrine that has been used to justify all sorts of atrocities against native Americans and other peoples in the Americas, in the name of our god given right to control and educate the savage world. The U.S. has inflicted plenty of harm on humanity. Most of it has been passively inflicted. Meaning, it was done in defense of military agression by other countries or done without ill intent when trying to secure some foreign policy goal. I certainly wouldn't compare the U.S. to an expansionist NAZI Germany or that sort of thing. But, the U.S. does have it's skelletons in it's closet (pardon the pun). Just by our drive for economic hemogeny, we've inflicted some pretty wicked harm on humanity.

Just the opposite. We are a peaceful nation charged with one of history's most awesome responsibilities, to keep the peace in a world rife with global tensions.

Hmmm... I know the U.S. does a lot of good in the world. But, to call us a "peaceful nation" is kind a stretch. We've been involved in all sorts of military conflicts around the world. We certainly aren't going to perceived as a "peacful nation" if we attack Iraq, no matter what our motivation is for the attack.
