Agreed, BBC news is excellent and more balanced global coverage. We get it satellite 24/7.

Aaargh. Andrew Sullivan calls it Bagdhad Broadcasting Corporation, and not without some reason. I think of the name every time I hear a reasoned debate on the BBC between someone holding a solidly "left" position (as defined in Britain) against someone holding a really far left position. This seems to be the Beeb's favorite style of debate, and I hear it a lot.

I remember one debate between a leftist Israeli academic who said plaintively that he should not be boycotted because he came from the good part of Israel. The other debater was Norman Finkelstein.

Another Beeb habit is intensely covering every fault of the Israelis, while giving the Palestinians carte blanche on their behavior. A few months ago, I heard numerous very critical stories on an Israeli court case discussing the possibility of deporting to Gaza family members of terrorist who had aided the terrorists. What interested me was that at the same time, there were numerous reports (out of Israeli and some Western media) of the Palestinians killing and torturing their way through an extended family on suspicion of collaboration, naturally without the benefit of any due process (final total about six dead and six tortured and/or in hiding). The BBC never mentioned it.
