why save the mortgage interest deduction? That discriminates against renters. I have no idea why that is so sacred. If there is a deduction that should be kept I would say it would be medical expenses and catastrophic. In other words something unexpected happened to you, and you can't pay. A house isn't like that.

Forbes had it right... every Congressional attempt to 'reform' the tax system has only inserted more special interest loopholes into it, and made it even worse.

The only way to achieve true reform is to start with a clean sheet of paper.
