I think Tom was trying to trick us: ""indians take series over bosox in seventh".

This could have been a series during regular season play, when the Tribe would have played the Bosox, but that series would not have gone 7.

It could have been a series, in the more modern era, when the Tribe played the Bosox for an LCS (I don't think that happened), but then telegrams wouldn't have been howling their way to Tom.

J.D., you are indeed (aren't we all?).

Yes, 1954, but the mighty Indians (awesome starting rotation of Lemon, Wynn, Garcia and a fourth--can't remember) went DOWN to the Willie Mays' Giants--his catch sprinting, with his back square to that black bordered delimiting thing, to dead centerfield in the old Polo Grounds (the longest shot possible in any ball park with walls, ever) off of Vic Wertz has frequently been called the greatest catch ever (in my book, Amoros' catch off, I think, Yogi at the leftfield wall of Yankee Stadium in Game 5 of the 55 Series was close). I was 7 years old at the time of the '54 Series. So there, all you young whippersnappers!

I thought somebody would pick up on that - it's even earlier.
I was certain it was Boston and Cleveland, but that's not possible, they're both AL and always have been, haven't they? It was Boston, because I remember that "Bosox" really stumped them.
Anyway, I'll 'fess up - it was '46 or '47.
Now I'll probably go to Google and find the Red Sox weren't in the world series those years!
