Maybe "fundamentalism" sounds too much like Jerry Falwell, or even worse, the Puritans. Holy Rollers. Snake handlers. John Ashcroft and George W. Bush.

"Revivalist" has elements of reviving the glory that was formerly known as Islam.

I saw a photo earlier today of a young man, apparently Middle Eastern, probably in London, holding a poster that said something like "Islam will control the earth" or some such. He looked very sincere.

On the contrary, he thinks half the members of MESA are genuine scholars (omitting any requirements for quality in the term) and supporters of terrorism, if only indirectly.

I think he has said words to the effect that the Professors of Mid East Studies in this country are all "ME Arabs or left wing radicals." In any case, it is pretty obvious that it is hard to do well in ME studies in this country unless you are "Pro-Palestine."
