I don't think that Americans in general understand what is really at stake and why the administration has targeted Iraq. It is surprising that they support it as much as they do. The administration has not been particularly good at articulating what they are really up to. I believe the policy shapers are moving the administration in the direction it is heading because they have identified Iraq as the keystone to achieve their vision of Pax Americana. Without Iraq, we have no beachhead for the new millenium.
This goes way beyond WMD and brutal regimes, but I guess the administration has decided to trot out these reasons because they think we are too stupid to understand the real ones.

The people who watched the Powell presentation feel a
lot more strongly that swift action is needed than
the ones who did not.

Maybe they were more receptive to begin with, maybe not.

At the least, a self-selected lot who take interest in the issue.
