If treating a person differently merely because they are of a different nationality is bigotry, I think that diminishes the term.

Hmmmm. As in "No Irish Need Apply?"

Know any good Polish jokes?

I don't think it's bigoted of an Iraqui at that point to say to an American "you are at war with us."

I agree. I agree the American, whatever his individual proclivities, would be the enemy in times of war. But it would be bigoted to assume that the individual American was a warmonger or hostile to Islam or arrogant or whatever it is that they think we all are.

If you're taking me to task for my choice of words, that's one thing. But if you're saying that it's not bigoted/prejudiced/whatever to generalize to the individual some unattractive characteristic from a group membership that is an accident of birth or circumstances and to mistreat the individual soley on that account, well, ya gotta be kidding.

Or perhaps you're just under the mistaken impression that Denmark is at war with France and Germany, in which case the restaranteur is on firm ground... <g>
