History repeats itself AND unfortunately we know Bush hasn't really spent much time studying history...

IMO, if Bush takes us into an elective 'pre-emptive' war against Iraq WITHOUT broad support in the U.S. and from allies around the world then he will almost guarantee that he will be a 1-term president...Very few presidents that have taken us into a major war have ever been able to get re-elected again...Many have predicted that this potential war with Iraq could damage our fragile economy as well as our security (of course I didn't even mention how the U.S. prestige and credibility will be damaged further).

History repeats itself.

At that point, maybe U.S. public opinion will be about where it was after the 1968 Tet Offensive.

First it's the "Drug War," then it's "Vietnam." Neither are the same, JS. The public knows we are in for a long, frustrating battle with these people, and that the countries that hide and support them have to change their ways.

Then we have, at the same time, the problem with rogue countries that we cannot allow to get WMD because they look upon us a target, and will use it on us, or sell it to someone who will. Sometimes these problems overlap, sometimes they don't. No one else is willing to "Bell the Cat" but us.

Those of you who think the above is an overreaction are refusing to face 911, and what it means. The anti-war reaction seems to those of us who favor action to be "No! No! there must be a better way!"

We don't think so.
