Excellent response! And I agree with a good chunk of it. The Marshall Plan was a hodge-podge with both good and flawed elements; on the whole, it was far better than nothing and at least provided for largely American administration of post-war Europe and Japan (it was a decided failure in China, though).

President Bush, in my opinion, does not have disdain for our allies but has greater respect for our supposed common ideals (a true sign of leadership).

Eisenhower was an administrator and a politician (and not a favorite of mine).

If oil were the only reason, we have plenty here we've never drilled for, nuclear power up the wazoo, coal for eons, and we can always (and have) bought oil (you don't have to steal it, you can pay for it with dollars).

We get "rich" because our system allows people the freedom to produce. Other nations seem to like a lot of the stuff we make. Japan and North Korea have similar natural resources (not much): which system works better for its citizens?

The "oil war" is a myth, propaganda for US bashers foreign and domestic--MK--
