in any decade (eg. 70,71,72,...79) the # minus the sum-of-digits is the same for all #s in that decade.

70-7 = 71-8 = 72-9 =... etc.

So all they had to do is make sure that the 9 #s corresponding to the 9 decades (10 to 19, 20 to 29, etc.) all have the same symbol next to them..

Get it? ;-)

how come it comes up with a symbol when I click and I have my mind in "blank", i.e. no number chosen.... -g

I figured it out with a friend over the weekend. I don't remember the exact number of combinations so i just used the number 9 im my last post. But all it comes down to is no matter which number you select, there are only a limited amount of numbers that the equation can add up to and those numbers all have the same symbol so the answer will always be right.
