We will be in Iraq for a while and it will be a good base of operations.

We will be there a while, a long while, but whether it is a good base is doubtful. The occupying troops will be surrounded by those who would do them harm, and the vast majority who will do nothing to prevent harm.

Bush doesn't care about democracy in Iraq, he cares about oil, his own political standing and maybe some measure of revenge. Bush is in a pickle now too. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. He put himself there. No one else did. That is what unilateralism is all about. You get the credit or the blame and no one else. Bushies try to blame France or the UN but that doesn't hold water. The only one in a rush is Bush and his chickenhawk think-tankers. Our generals dont even want to rush in. They know it's a big booby-trap and urban fighting will be a meat-grinder.
