It is a contentious issue since some countries, for their own political purposes still don't consider cdma2000 1x as 3G, such as Korea, China and most of Europe. They have 2.1 ghz spectrum to sell for 3G and if they called cdma2001x 3G then how could they sell the new spectrum?. Anyway, ITU does consider it 3G because it hits peak rates of 144 kbps. So that is the definition Qualcomm uses on the site you mentioned, www.3gtoday.com
