In all seriousness, you should start a thread about these public education issues. You certainly have a lot of passion about them.

My post to John was an idle thought, and I won't pursue it here. Oh, John and I will claw at one another as various stories hit the Media, but that's all. I will pass on a local story that illustrates my frustration.

The Hawaiian Public School system announced with pride that they are introducing "Immersion classes" for elementary grades in Hawaiian.

That's just great. These kids come to school very proud of the fact that they speak "Pigeon," and instead of giving them "Immersion classes" in American English, they give them Hawaiian. That kind of "education" will provide great Entertainers and Servers for the Tourist Industry, I guess. They will all be cute little "Natives." Industry can get their Execs from the Indians who learn American English in special schools so that they can do better in this country. And our local native pressure groups can continue to tell these kids that the reason they don't do better in life is that the white man stole Hawaii from them.

But, hey, I am just a grumpy old white guy, and I keep my mouth shut.
