There is a difference between direct and indirect connections. There are obvious indirect connections, as OBL has laid them out several times. Without Saddam, there wouldn't have been any US troops stationed in SA, no no fly zones and no sanctions in Iraq; all reasons given by OBL for his jihad.. Our efforts to contain Saddam gave rise to OBL.
