David Re..We are not going to be making the kind of expenditures in the Middle East we made under the Marshall Plan. We'll go in, spend what it takes to win the war, but there is no reason we would need to spend the kind of money we did after WWII.

Isn't that what I said. Even if it did, it would be worth it, as the middle east could easily be the new Europe 30 yrs from now; if GW has his way.

1) Iraq has plenty of money of its own, and the Iraqi people are being deprived of it now. They will be pleased to use their own money for something other than building Saddam Palces.

That is untrue. Saddam has built up reputedly 50 - 80 billion in debts from his wars, both in actual, and war reparations. No way Iraq can pay them off.

About what are you talking? We have been told to leave after the war is over. A new regime plans to take over.

>(2) The war will be minimally destructive. We have the weapons systems to be able to win the war without destroying the infrastructure.

And if the administration believes all this, I'm not in support of this war.
