Mike M: RE:("16 May, 1918 The U.S. Sedition Act")

homestead.com

Key phrase "when the United States is at war".

Of course "war" has not been formerly declared, but for all intensive purposes we are at war. It's just that our enemy is a loose coalition of widely disbursed terror organizations and the countries that finance them - very complex indeed.

It will be interesting to see how (if at all) this long standing Sedition Law is enforced in the coming months and years.

IMHO, if not for the key phrase above, our jails would be overflowing with Seditionists - some from Congress and many from Hollywood and the TV media.

RE: ("punished by a fine of not more than $10,000....")

TUnfortunately, they didn't include an adjustment for inflation in that law <grn>.

Hi Mike,
Were Korea and Vietnam officially declared wars?
Did anybody go to jail for opposing the government's decision to send troops to fight? Would the invasion of Iraq be a war without being officially sanctioned by congress?
Is it something to do with the US honoring a UN commitment?
It looks like most here are deeply concerned about what happened and may happen to people in this country. The big difference is what course of action to take.
Do you have any ideas on how to eliminate the threat without massive human destruction?
Seem's to me a discussion on that would serve better than a lot of name calling.
