SIRI is due to announce the approval of its debt refi plans by mid next week and may be a good swing play here.

the Kurds-- the US gave the okay for Turkish troops to follow us into Iraq and "disarm" them. How can we expect them to fight for us against Saddam knowing that they will be sold out (once again) as soon as it's over??

Some interesting points you raise.

Here are a few more to ponder.

1. The US has more weapons of mass destruction the world has ever seen. We are led by a President who was elected under very dubious circumstances and who proudly announces that he is on a Mission from God. This alone should make us stay awake at night.

2. Iraq is the new Spain. Just as the Germans tested out all their new weapons in the Spanish Civil War before WWII, we will be testing out ours in Iraq today.

3. If Iraq weren't sitting atop an enormous oil pool do you think we would give a rat's ass about them? North Korea is a greater threat but alas they have no oil reserves. We need fresh cheap gasoline to fuel our SUVs, don't we?

4. Bring democracy to the region. I don't think so. All of our allies there are kingdoms or fiefdoms. I doubt their rulers and their friends want to be put on the unemployment lines or worse. The whole area could be destabilized with quite a few rogue States springing up overnight.

5. There is nothing like a good war to get our minds off the economic shambles in this country. The boys in power are using 9/11 to sell some type of benevolent police state to the gullible populous in the guise of an anti-terrorism program. The Office of Homeland Security has fast become our Propaganda Ministry, spreading fear and loathing across the land. Nothing like colored alerts each week to up the sales of duct tape and plastic sheeting. Reminds one of the newspaper jingoism that brought about the Spanish-American War. It did sell newspapers then and is selling gas masks now. Next there will be a shortage of toilet paper. Remember the Maine!

6. We cannot be Policeman to the World. We simply can't afford it. Our President is spending America's future to attempt this. If a country has a corrupt or despotic regime, it is up to the citizens there to overthrow them, not us. Nuclear bomb factories like the one in N. Korea can be neutralized quickly without rustling the leaves on the trees. Why go to war?

7.We are rapidly becoming all the things we fought against in WWII.

8. The next Presidential election will determine the course we take from here. Let us hope this one is not stolen in front of the entire world. Last time the Supreme Court showed its worth by letting a stealth coup d'etat take place in front of the TV cameras. Let us get rid of the Electoral College. It was only devised as a means to negate the popular vote. One man or woman, one vote should be the rule. Living persons only, no more voting out of the cemeteries.

These are just some thoughts to kick around while spilling some suds in the local Legion Halls.
