Drug development is a large part of it. I also believe that lack of insurance in underdeveloped countries such as Mexico, lowers the cost of many types of prescription drugs.

One such med is Ventolin(albuterol), an oral inhaler that I get in Mexico, made by GlaxoWellcome. It is about one third of the price of the same product in the USA. I am not sure where the Mexico version is made, but the ones I get are in Spanish.

Good point. And one of the prime current liberal talking points is gov't coverage of prescription drugs. Ultimately that has to mean lower drug prices as has happened with doctor bills and Medicare. At that point the drug companies have a choice of (1) stopping new development, or (2) passing the costs on to the 3rd world, which means the poor there do without.

Another example of the law of unintended consequences at work.
